Rob van Holstein

Rob van Holstein is a PhD candidate under supervision of Christoph Keller and Frans Snik. He is developing a model describing the polarimetric performance of the high-contrast imaging polarimeter SPHERE-ZIMPOL on the Very Large Telescope. The main goal of his work is to understand and mitigate polarization aberrations, i.e. polarization-dependent deviations to the ideal point spread function, to successfully image exoplanets and inner circumstellar disks in reflected light with ZIMPOL.

In addition Rob is taking and analyzing polarimetric measurements of young giant exoplanets and circumstellar disks with SPHERE-IRDIS to study their formation and evolution. For this Rob has developed a model describing the instrumental polarization effects of the complete optical path of IRDIS.
